This  1949 utility building was the first automatic telephone exchange in Queensland. In 1976 its function was usurped by its adjacent but  "famously unattractive" 22 story concrete cousin.  Largely forgotten and becoming increasingly derelict, this former landmark was ripe for reinvention.

Today, the telephone exchange is transformed into a stylish complex boasting modern apartments and commercial tenancies.  Industrial Art Deco detailing (with a tinge of Steam Punk) brings new energy to the

 original structure and creates a building with modern, unique character.
